MTB Fundamentals (Introduction Skills Mini-Clinic)

  • Long-term fun, success, and growth in mountain biking starts with a solid fundamental skill base that connects these skills for casual riding all the way through tech riding and big sends.
  • MTB Fundamentals is a required prerequisite for the MTB Drops & Jumps mini clinic.

1. Pressure Control: Light hands and heavy feet — Hips, Legs and Feet direct the bike and Hands and arms guide the bike, while eyes and chin point the bike. Pressure control provides the constant input bikes require to stay on a desired line.

4. Ready Positions

5. Bike & Body Separation: Front, back and Side-to-side

6. Pedals & Cranks: Level to ground

7. Braking: Modulation with bracing Leg; Emergency to standard

8. Vision: Eyes & Chin

9. Steering: Turning bars; leaning bike and turning bars; leaning bike and body

10. Gearing, Cadence & Shifting: Struggle vs flow

11. TIming & Coordination: Speed and skill steps create variable

 

Details for all Spokelore mountain bike mini clinics:

  • Clinics are intended for high school age youth to adults (14 to 99 years). Mini clinics are suitable for female and male learners alike.
  • Learning will be held on flatland, grass, and will utilize ramps for some skills.
  • Instruction will be based on BICP mountain bike principles. BICP curriculum is recognized by both MCA and NICA.
  • Instruction will include discussion, skill observation, riding, and video review for each learner.
  • All skill learning will be connected to specific trail applications.
  • A mountain bike (with or without suspension), helmet and closed-toe shoes are required. Flat pedals are highly recommended.
  • All clinics will be limited to 7 attendees for optimal group learning and plenty of 1:1 instruction individualization.
  • $99 per session, per person. Every attendee receives a Spokelore riding tech tee and learning card.
  • A 25% discount will be given to attendees that sign-up for all four mini clinic sessions.
