Description

The Boulder Junction Chamber of Commerce and the local cycling community invite you to a Bike Swap and FREE Safety Rodeo on Saturday, May 23rd from 11 AM – 2 PM. These two separate events will be held at the Boulder Junction Community Center. The aim is to raise funds and awareness for the trails in Boulder Junction, a central and historic part of the paved 52-mile Heart of Vilas County Bike Trail system that connects five communities in the Northern Highland American Legion State Forest. This is your chance to find good deals on bikes, learn, and meet others who are enthusiastic about cycling.

Bike Swap – Inside the Community Center
Sale Hours: 11 AM – 2 PM
The swap is for both used and new bikes. Used bikes must be clean and in good working condition. Those interested in selling, bring your bike(s) to the Community Center on the morning of the event between 8-10 AM for drop off and to sign a release form. 20% of each sale’s proceeds will be retained as commission to benefit the maintenance of the Boulder Junction bike trails. Any bikes not sold must be picked up at 2 PM. Those interested in buying, doors open at 11 AM. Cash or credit accepted.

Safety Rodeo – Outside the Community Center – FREE
Rodeo: 1 – 2 PM
The rodeo is for ages 4 to adult. Children must be able to ride on their own. It will be fun and educational! Do you know how to pump your tires effectively? How about the rules of the road? And where most accidents happen? Join us to find out.
The rodeo includes the following stations:

  • bike maintenance
  • pre-ride safety checks (e.g. helmet fitting, brake checks)
  • balance skills and games
  • specific safety skills training including:
    • start and stop
    • signals and scans
    • obstacle avoidance
    • driveway and mid-block exits
    • traffic signs and intersections

Bring your bicycle and helmet. Families are welcome!
You may register in advance by filling out the online form. Walk-in registrations are accepted at 12:30 PM. In the event of rain, the rodeo will still be held outdoors, under cover.

After the festivities, enjoy a bike ride on our beautiful, paved Boulder Junction bike trails. Follow the Boulder Junction Bike Trails Facebook page for updates and announcements about these events. (www.facebook.com/bjbiketrail)
